What is Blurmi?

We publish short-form literary fiction (300–500 words) organized by emotional state (anxiety, loneliness, burnout, and more). Our stories don't give advice or motivation; they offer recognition. Think of it as a mirror, not a manual.
What is a micro-story?
A micro-story (or micro-fiction) is a complete narrative told in under 500 words. It captures a single emotional moment (a pause between meetings, the weight of a quiet evening, the hum of anticipation) with the compression and precision of poetry. The best micro-stories leave room for you to fill in the spaces with your own experience.
How is a micro-story different from a short story?
A short story typically runs 1,500 to 7,500 words and follows a traditional arc: setup, conflict, resolution. A micro-story achieves a similar emotional effect in a fraction of the space. It's not just a shorter story; it's a different form. It works through implication and resonance rather than through plot.
How do I find stories that match my mood?
Every story on Blurmi is tagged with emotional states (anxiety, loneliness, burnout, etc.), scenes (office, night, commute), and themes (self-discovery, acceptance, connection). Use the filter bar at the top of the Stories page to narrow down by how you're feeling. You can also browse our curated Collections for hand-picked stories around each emotion.
Who writes Blurmi's stories?
Our stories come from a combination of sources: original pieces by our editorial team, contributions from independent writers, carefully selected public-domain micro-fiction, and AI-assisted drafts that are reviewed and refined by human editors. Every story goes through a quality review before publication.
Can I submit my own story?
Not yet, but we're building toward it. We believe everyone has a story worth telling. In the future, we plan to open submissions and allow the community to contribute micro-stories. Follow us on social media for updates.
Is Blurmi free?
Yes, Blurmi is free to use. We display minimal advertising to support the platform. In the future, we may offer a premium tier with additional features, but the core experience (reading stories that match your mood) will always remain free.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can browse and read stories without signing up. Creating an account (via magic link email) lets you save favorites, leave emotional traces on stories, and build a personal emotional archive over time.
